Shelled Pecans

Whomever is responsible for inventing the first machine to produce shelled pecans is an absolute genius in my book. If someone were to introduce me to him I’m certain I would greet him with a hug. Now, I’d like to clear the air a little here. It’s not really that I’m lazy. After all, I have sweet memories of sitting around my grandparents’ fireplace and cracking pecans with my siblings. There is something satisfying about cracking and shelling a pecan yourself. I mean seriously, those shells are sometimes hard as rocks. So I feel a sense of pride when I use my strength in such a way. But I also acknowledge that as an adult I don’t have the luxury of time like I did when I was a child. That’s why shelled pecans are a lifeline of mine.

Most evenings you can find me driving, in a rather speedy way, out to our home in the country to prepare dinner. Time always seems to be getting away from me and dinner seems to be no different. When my meals call for pecans, I reach into my freezer with ease and grab a bag of either pecan halves or pieces and place the bag back into the freezer. This setup has saved me on many occasions and each time I am reminded of the time that I am able to save. I’m then able to put my prepared dish into the oven, fix a glass of whatever preferred beverage I feel like at the time, and relax a bit while it is cooking. If you find yourself limited on time like I am or unable to shell the pecans you currently have, then I suggest making it your practice to purchase a bag of our shelled pecans.
